Picture taken on our honeymoon of the Grand Floridian Resort, the most expensive Disney hotel. It is based on the Coronado in San Diego, where John's parents stayed on their honeymoon. It would have been cool to stay there for that reason, but at over $500 per night, it was a little out of our price range.

I tag Mom, Melanie, Sarah, and anyone who hasn't done this.

The Past Year

So, I guess I am behind on this blogging thing. (My mother even beat me to it!) I thought to start I would just review what’s happened in the last year since my life is oh so exciting – I am sure you will be on the edge of your seats. :p

Last September, the 6th to be exact, John and I were married. We were married at the Gallivan Center in downtown SLC. I loved doing the wedding outside – it was a gorgeous late summer/early fall day. We wrote the ceremony ourselves and did our own vows. I am not bragging when I say it was totally amazing – it’s the truth.

Princess even dressed up for the occasion. We had lovely food to eat – none of which I actually got to eat, but everyone told me it was good.

A few days later, we left on our honeymoon to Walt Disney World. I know; people think we were crazy. But we both loved it. Nowhere else could have been better. We are both big Disney fans (I converted John), so we had a ton of fun. We stayed in the most amazing hotel, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and had safari animals right outside our balcony.

The service was wonderful. Everyone at the hotel and in the parks congratulated us. And we got free food. WDW food is not like theme park food; we ate at very nice restaurants and had amazing food. Other highlights: John swam with sharks (a dream of his), I bought a ton of stuff, I finally ate at Planet Hollywood, we had the best South African food, I got to be on the big screen, Mickey Mouse gave us a thumbs up. And I, theme park commando as I am, actually slowed down my pace through everything. We finished out the 2 weeks with a few days on the beach in Clearwater.

After the fabulous honeymoon, it was back to work for me. I work as a political consultant. Don’t ask me what I do; I never know how to describe it. Basically, I do communications, PR, and political strategy for non-profits, developers, and quasi-government groups. I went right back to that general craziness, even working during most of the Thanksgiving break. It’s okay, though, because I really do love my job.

Then John decided to go back to school in January to be a history teacher. He has been running his own business for several years, but that has been wearing on him. Plus, my amazing husband has always wanted a job where he could help people – one of the many reasons I love him. He has been an amazing student; he definitely gets better grades than I did in college and much better than he did the first time around in college. He even made the President’s List! Now I love school (yes, total nerd) and would love to go back some day for a doctorate or second masters. But right now, helping him with his schoolwork is satisfying that craving for me.

In January, my little sis got married then a few months later got pregnant. So, yes, my little sister who is seven years younger than me is having a baby before me. As I am so not ready for kids, this works for me. So, I will get to be an aunt to a little boy born next year. I am very excited for that.

Other highlights of the year: We went to Disneyland in June for the last time before letting our annual passes expire. I am dying to go back at Christmas time, but I am thinking school and work and money are going to get in the way. Ugh. We have had numerous health problems between us and with our families over the last year, but as of this moment, everyone is reasonably healthy. Princess turned 2 while we were out of town, so she didn’t get to have a birthday party. So I think we are going to throw her a half-birthday party in December. She hasn’t had a chance to wear her birthday dress yet, so she needs a party. Just this month, we moved to a new place in Sugarhouse, not very far from our old house but much cuter. I have everything unpacked and put away - almost. I will by this weekend, and then I will put pictures up.

So, that is basically our year. Not so exciting, but it has been a wonderful year for us.
